Have you ever felt like you don’t deserve your job or that you’re not as capable as others think you are? Maybe you worry that one day someone will “find out” you’re not really qualified. These feelings are common and are known as imposter syndrome. Many people experience imposter syndrome at some point in their careers, no matter how skilled or experienced they are. In this blog, we’ll explain what imposter syndrome is, why it happens, and how you can manage it so it doesn’t hold you back at work.
Imposter syndrome is when you feel like a fraud, even if you’re doing well. You might think you don’t deserve your success or that you just got lucky. Many people feel this way. It often comes from setting super high expectations or feeling like you don’t fit in. Signs include doubting yourself, avoiding challenges, and worrying others will “find out” you’re not good enough. But feeling this way doesn’t mean it’s true. You can manage it by naming what’s happening, keeping track of your wins, talking to someone, letting go of perfection, and reminding yourself that it’s okay to feel unsure while you grow.
Imposter syndrome can be loud, convincing, and exhausting, but it doesn’t have to run the show. By recognizing the signs, challenging your inner critic, practicing positive self-talk, and keeping track of your wins, you can start to build real confidence from the inside out.
